Becoming A Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides daily basic care for patients in providing both physical and emotional support for patients in the Long-term care setting.
CNAs must be able to provide personal assistance to individuals who are unable to care for themselves and help regain and maintain daily functions.
CNA Requirements
To be certified as a nursing assistant, the student must successfully complete the New Jersey curriculum for Nurse Aide in Long Term Care Facilities Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP).
The Certified Nurse Aide course is comprised of 90 hours: 50 instructional (classroom) hours and 40 clinical hours.
Skills You Will Learn
Introduction
You will learn about compassionate care and treatment for vulnerable communities. The instructor will demonstrate skills in classroom setting, and work in compliance with NJ testing requirements.
Advanced Skills
Be able to Introduce yourself professionally, showing dignity and respect when greeting and assisting aid through verbal, written and physical contacts with residents.
Becoming Certified
You will be reading the required textbook and complete the weekly workbook assignment. You will be given weekly quizzes, vocabulary reinforcement and practice skills and exhibit knowledge learned in a real life clinical setting.

- Must be able to speak and read English
- Valid Identification card (driver’s license, state ID, or Passport)

- Fingerprint
- QuanteFeron blood draw
- Flu vaccine (seasonal)

Time Management
Demonstrate reliability by arriving at class and clinical assignment, at the appropriate assigned time and place.
Classroom Etiquette
Come prepared for each day, well groomed, and wearing approved scrubs.
Complete required reading materials and engage in weekly classroom and clinical discussions.
Attendance
Students are expected to complete all hours in-person.
